Don’t Know What to Write? How to Overcome Writer’s Block

Writer's Block

I have been blogging since March 2020 and I have never had a problem coming up with something interesting to write about. However, today I sat in front of my laptop trying to think of what my next blog post was going to be about. I had no idea what to write and nothing seemed to inspire me.

Suddenly, an interesting thought came to my mind. If I’m having trouble thinking of what I could write, maybe other writers are having the same problem. Thus, I came up with this blog post: How to Overcome Writer’s Block.

What is Writer’s Block?

There are many authors and writers who suffer from writer’s block occasionally. Writer’s block occurs when an author temporarily loses the ability to write or produce new work.

They may experience a reduction in creativity but this has nothing to do with the author’s lack of writing skills or their dedication. Sometimes it just happens when they have trouble coming up with new ideas.

Whether you write short stories, articles, novels, nonfiction books, or screenplays, I’m sure that you have had writer’s block on more than one occasion, I know I have.

And you’ve probably read many articles that give suggestions on what you can do to get rid of it. Maybe in this blog post, you will find some new ideas to stop writer’s block that you haven’t read on other websites.

Four Steps to Overcome Writer’s Block

Step 1: Get Ideas from a picture.

Find a picture that’s based on the topic you want to write about. Study the picture. Let your mind wander. Let your imagination take over. For example, if you were interested in writing about weddings, find a wedding photo and write about what you see in it. Describe what you see happening in the photo.

Ask yourself the questions: Who? What? Where? When? Why? And how? Get your juices flowing and write down all the ideas that pop into your mind. This method may also work if you are trying to write a short story.

Step 2: Make a list of all the topics you want to write about.

You know what you are interested in writing about. Now do a search online and visit your local library (as soon as the government says it is okay for it to open) and read books on your favorite topics. Then make a list of blog topic ideas that you come up with.

In addition to writing down blog topics, you should also write down a few sentences explaining briefly what each topic is about. If you use this method, I am sure that you will never have to worry about running out of ideas ever again.

Step 3: Join Quora to Get Ideas on Topics that Interest You

Quora is a question-and-answer website where people can sign up and ask questions, answer questions, provide facts or give opinions. It is a popular online platform where people can gain knowledge and share knowledge.

If you’re having trouble trying to find something to write about, then you should create an account on Quora so that you can view all the questions that people ask about the topics you’re interested in and then you can come up with your own answers. This is a great way to write a question and answer blog post on the topics that interest you and your readers.

Step 4: Do a Google search on a Blog Topic

When you do a Google search on a particular keyword, sometimes there is a section labelled “People also ask” which contains about 4 questions that people usually ask about that same keyword.

For example, I entered the keyword WordPress in the search bar, and in the “People also ask” section the following questions were generated:

  • What is WordPress used for?
  • What is WordPress and how does it work?
  • Is WordPress good for beginners?
  • How do I create a free WordPress website?

These questions are good examples of blog post ideas that I could write about pertaining to the topic of WordPress.
